Book News You Can Use 1/30/15

  By the time your read this, there is a good chance that I've finished this book, but I'm going to tell you about it anyway. My Friday Reads is Into the Go-Slow by Bridgett Davis . It's 1987 and Angie's life has been stuck in neutral since her older sister Ella died in Nigeria three years earlier.  After college graduation, she decides to go to Nigeria to trace her sister's last days and finds herself in the meantime.  I decided to bump this book to the top of my reading list after the Blerd Book Club decided to make it their January section.  I've enjoyed it, but since I'm close to the end, the route it has taken the last few pages I've read has me scratching my head.  I look forward to the discussion about the book on February 8. Mailbox Monday 1/26/15

More books came in the mail last week, so it's time for another edition of Mailbox Monday! All three of the books came from Harper Books and will be released in March. A Reunion of Ghosts The Unravelling of Mercy Louis The Bookseller  (Note: the cover looks different on the website.) Book News You Can Use 1/23/15

I know many of you watched the Bobby and Whitney movie on Lifetime last week.  And you probably saw the commercials for With This Ring .  Did you know it was based on a book called The Vow ? I didn't until this week. Did you also know that Baggage Claim was also based on a book ?  Let's hope that Hollywood is starting a trend where African American books become TV and featured movies.  Let's also hope that With This Ring is better than the Aaliyah and Brittney Murphy movies. Relax in Paradise Robert Stone .  Word also just came in that Gwynne Forster has passed away. Thoughts and prayers go out to Ruth Rendell, who just suffered a stroke . Here is a list of six upcoming books by African-American women to look forward to this year. If there is a Gone Girl sequel , I hope involves a main character being locked up in prison or in a mental institution. Speaking of Gone Girl, you can get a copy of an Amazing Amy book if you buy the Blu-Ray. Books turned into movies and TV shows did well in this week's Golden Globe Awards . The Man In 3B movie will be featured in the Pan African Film and Arts Festival . Idris Elba is  developing a movie trilogy  where Edgar Allen Poe is an unlikely hero.  I know it's unlikely, but can Idris play Poe? Corduroy was always one of my favorite children's books. Time Magazine just named it one of their 100 Best Children's Books of All Time. Nicholas Sparks is known for his romantic tales.  Looks like his personal life isn't as romantic as his books. Can someone please tell Ben Carson that plagiarizing is a bad idea , especially if you are thinking about running for President? Happy New Year! New books came in the mail over the holidays, so it's time for another edition of Mailbox Monday! I received two book from Harper Books .  They will be out in February. Girl Runner Eye on the Struggle I also received five books from Kensington Books .  They are: I'd Kill For You The Forever Bridge Surface Hold Me Down Across A Green Ocean And for Christmas, I received a book from my sister.  Someone recommended it to her and since she wants to read more in 2015, she suggested that we read it together.
